Magazine Advertising

Another of my responsibilities was to look at different prices in magazine advertising. Obvious this can vary a lot depending on the type of magazine and its readership, but it is useful to know the rates for the everything.

Most websites seem to say that magazine advertising starts from around £1000 for a full colour page.
This is probably mostly true, however there are publications that will charge as little as maybe £100 or may even advertise for free in exchange for distribution for example.
These magazines are obviously the very low key magazines that cost very little to print and will be done by independent individuals or very small orgnaisations. This might sound like the magazines aren't great, but thinking about our target audience it could prove the right kind of route to go down.

In terms of high end magazine advertising, we would be looking at more like 10 - £20,000 for a full colour page.
This is obviously much too expensive and we also have to take into account the fact that a larger publication would have many more specific rules and regulations about advertising placement. For example, an advert in a magazine will usually have to be submitted about 3 months before it will be printed in an issue of the magazine.

It is very difficult to find the advertising rates of smaller independent style magazines so I will need to contact them directly for this info.
The kinds of smaller magazines that we would be looking to advertise in would be things like ShortList magazine and it's feminine equivalent Stylist.
