End of Module Self-Evaluation

1. What practical skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I have learned a lot about using design software effectively in my work, especially about adobe illustrator and about digital colour. I have since used Illustrator for a lot of my work because of the high quality graphics that can be produced and the vectorised images.
I didn't even know how to use illustartor when I got here and now I feel really confident that I can use it produce almost any work that I want to.
I have also learned a lot about type and when is the best time to use it or not to use it and I am trying to implement this in my design as best as I can but it still needs some more work.

2.What approaches to/methods of problem solving have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have learned a lot about generating initial ideas quickly and easily and working with really simple ideas and imagery. Generally it is the simplest approaches that will work out best and communicate exactly what you want them to. I have also learned that you don't have to come up with an amazing idea to start off the brief, just coe up with anything that you think relates to it and work on it. The quicker you do this, the more time you have to develop.

3.What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I generally have a high quality on all finished work and my strengths at the moment are with software like Illustrator and Photoshop. I can usually come up with some pretty strong visuals that hopefully stand out. I am also pretty accurate now when it comes to following the brief as best I can and creating a piece of work to a high standard

4.What weakenesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

One weakness I have is print and understanding the gap between the digital on screen and the print and how it changes an image or looks different on paper. I am trying to get better at his and experience is deifnitely making this less of an issue. I am also struggling a bit with type but I have learned a lot and I am trying to become better at knowing when to use it and exactly how to use it. My biggest wekaness is definitely time management and organisation which have been affecting me a lot during this module. I have really started taking tis seriously now but it is difficult to address half way through the module when the problem started at the begginning, so I am tying my hardest to stay on top of work and manage it properly.

5.Identify five things that you will do differently nxt time and what you expect to gain from doing these?

- Definitely do as much work as reasonably possible when I can to try and keep on top of the heavy work load which should relieve some pressure and make the module flow more smoothly.
- Organise my work properly so that I know where everything is and should be when it is needed which should make things like printing or even just continuing on some development much easier.
- Try to really listen to crits and understand what people are trying to say about my work and why. This should really give me a better understanding of what parts of my work are going well and what parts are not workign as well from an outside perspective.
- Use hand drawn idea generating and development in my design and make sure it is presented neatly. This should really help me generate lots of ideas quickly instead of just manipulating one idea over and over and the neatness should help me understand what routes I have taken when looking over my work.
- Plan ahead. By planing ahead I can create a time plan of what needs to be done and how long it will take, then I can set a certain number of tasks to do during a period of time and will be able to add time in case somethign goes wrong or doesn't work. This should definitely make like sipler and ensure that all my work is completed to the absolute best of my ability.

6. How would you grade yourself on the following areas? (1=poor - 5=excellent):

Attendance - 5
Punctuality - 4
Motivation - 4
Commitment - 4
Quantity of work produced - 3
Quality of work produced - 5
Contribution to the group - 4
